WHY do you do what you do???
WHY do you want to create change in the world? WHY do you want to protect the planet? WHY do you do the work you do?? -- We don't think about our WHY enough. And we don't think deeply enough. We may have surface answers ('because it's the right thing to do') - but WHY??? If you can determine your true WHY and bring it into consciousness, it's like rocket fuel - it will propel you forward, and it will help you break through obstacles that get in your way. The best way to do this is to ask yourself at least 3 layers deep (or 4, or 7.... ask yourself until you run out of answers!). Why... And why is that?... And why is that?? - And so on. Here are my answers... >> Why do I live a sustainable lifestyle? I live a sustainable lifestyle because I feel RESPONSIBILITY for this earth. I know that as a human I have the power to create or the power to destroy... and with that comes the responsibility to choose. I live a sustainable lifestyle because I rather feel empowered than victimized. By seeing myself at cause (rather than blaming others) and focusing on the things I can control (which is actually quite a LOT) I can create more change. And I live a sustainable lifestyle because I feel compassion for the creatures that have less capability to make choices. Because I honor this gift of life but I don't take it for granted. >> Why do I do what I do in my work? - Why do I coach people? Because I know of the potential that lies hidden in all of us - the potential to really create change in this world - if we can be in our full power. Everyone has the capacity to make their life meaningful in a way that goes far beyond only themselves. And the capacity to do real good in the world in a way that creates a ripple effect. Yet, only few people do so because they feel trapped in some way - in their circumstances, in their thoughts, in their hurt. And it seems insurmountable. However, I KNOW from experience that a shift can happen in a heartbeat, that what we think are stone walls are actually paper thin. Breaking through them is the most exhilarating, magical and empowering experience - and being able to help others experience this is the most fulfilling thing I can think of. I also do what I do because I know what hurt feels like - and how hurt can not only stop us from living our lives to the fullest potential but also stop us from being able to focus on the bigger picture - from caring for others and the planet. I believe if I can help heal some of the hurt, people will be able to reconnect with the world around them in a caring and compassionate way, again, creating a ripple effect. And I do it because I believe in freedom. I used to think I needed to 'create' freedom... then I realized it was there all along - I just didn't make use of it because I believed it was not. Now I know it's just a matter of embracing the opportunities that are already there. And I do it because I see business being a catalyst for change. I see the entrepreneurial journey as a personal development / spiritual path - something I never expected, but am finding incredibly powerful.
